BG52 KWE - Avoid



  No Car ATM
I was looking for a new runaround / track car after selling my Polo GTI. Did a search for this car, and found out it used to belong to a previous member back in 2009. Since then, although it doesnt appear to have much more mileage, it hasnt been loved on the face of things.

Dont be fooled by the 58k miles.

A few of its problems:
  • The obvious one: Really rubbish 17" alloys. Not sure where the Turinis went. Owner had them refurbed on here back in 2009. The wheels are really naff, in bad condition, corroded and the tyres are split. Budget tyres too.
  • Dent in N/S rear quarter
  • Cup splitter heavily scuffed, bumper also feels loose on this corner.
  • Drivers seat doesnt lift very easily.
  • Laquer peel under the window on the O/S rear quarter.
  • Airbox falling off. Held on with cable ties. Looks like a K&N was fitted at some time, and original parts were not put back on. Airbox bodged into place. Doesnt even meet intake elbow.
  • Original breather pipe not reconnected. Crappy breather filter to atmosphere fitted instead.
  • Badly.........very badly...........painted inlet manifold and also looks like paint was spread half over the engine bay at the same time.
  • Gear gaitor hanging off. Looks like someone has tried to stick it back into place with a hot glue gun.
  • Generally quite a few scratches on the paint. RDS that a machine polish woud most likely NOT get out.
  • Headlining marked and torn in places.
  • Carpet under back seats looks heavily marked. Trim missing. Paint chipped underneath.
  • No spare wheel. (Assuming a 172 cup had one? My 200 cup didnt so not sure, but the whole spare wheel area is massively paint chipped)
  • Headlamps are badly tarnished. Obviously, these can be brought back to life with a wet sand and machine polish.
  • Generally, seems unloved at the moment.
IMO. Its worth no more than £1500 due to the work thats needed, in spite of its apparent low mileage. There are fairly mint 172 Cups around for £2500. We went to see this one as it was local. To everyone else, dont bother if you were thinking about it. :) Also, the guy that works there was trying to give me all the normal 2nd hand car sales bullshit which i just wasnt in the mood for.

Hope this helps someone else not have a wasted trip as mine was.

Doesn't sound too bad but certainly not worth £2.5k I would give £1.5-£1.8k I reckon.

Yeah, i tried to tell the salesman this. To be honest, id have purchased it at £1500. Found some turinis and taken care of the niggles. He was insistent it would sell at this price. Obviously, it wont, as he was telling me of the many people that had viewed it. Ironically, nobody has driven it away, so what does that tell him? :p
 
Lol no reason to avoid that imo all it needs is a bit spending on it to bring it back. I thought it was going to be some sort of terminal engine fault or something.

Looks ok in the pics. At £2500 its definitely one to avoid.

Huge shame that the last owner hasent looked after her he obviously dident no anything about his car and them wheels are horrid :mad: hopefuly she will go to a good home

I owned this car a good few years ago and sold it to a South Wales dealer as standard in 2009, I think forum user p4cks bought it in 2009. I can give you a bit of history pre 2009 but that's it - PM me if anyone needs to know anything
