BHP question

Is the 172BHP taken from the flywheel if so what is the BHP at the wheels. Do all manufacteres quote the figures from the flywheel

yep they quote what the engine produces... at the fly.

depends how much you lose in transmission and all that, basically you can get on a rolling road and test whats at the wheels, but you have to take the measurements from the lump itself to get the fly figure accuratetly

Flywheel figures are usually estimates if its been on a RR.

Unlike the old 16V/Williams series that often make a fair bit more power than standard, there are some tales of 172s making below the quoted 170(2?) bhp.

Not unless theyre 4wd ;)

If the 172 had only got 130bhp @ wheels, that gives it a 23% transmission loss which just aint the case. The losses for a fwd car are about 15% and the 172s 169bhp means it will have approx 144bhp @ wheels.

When we had Boyos & SilverRSCs totally standard mk2 172s on the rollers before Xmas they both made 144bhp @ wheels, so spot on!
