Bike carburetors



Just wondering if any1 can shed any light on the subject of using bike carbs on there car and doing away with the fuel injection. There was an article in last months practical performance car where they explained how to achieve this for under a 100 quid using carbs off superbikes. apparently with a simple re-jet they could match the performance of a set of webbers with a lot less fuss. I have no idea how much performance gain you could achive but they were making comparrisons with throttle body conversions. Could make an interesting mod for someone willing to take it on?

Bike throttle bodies can be used too, modern superbikes are all fuel injected. But early R6's and R1's for example were carb'd

anythings possible if u have access to tools to fabricate parts and the know how to make it work.

Suppose its possible..

A 2ltr clio would be setup as 4x 500cc single cylinder engines, maybe something off a XT500 (trail bike, single cylinder) etc...

Can name many a single cylinder bike over 400cc..
 
A honda blackbird uses 42mm Keihins and on stardard jets they are fuelled for 170+ bhp. Or there are smaller 40mm carbs available from r1's zx9r's etc and they are all 10 a penny from scappers. I would deffinatly be intersted in trying this conversion if the gains were high enough, there is a company called bogg bros who specialise in converting cars on to bike carbs, they handle the fabrication of the inlet manifold and fuell pumps etc and they can even supply a bolt on kit with rejeted carbs, manifold and all the bits tailored for your engine for fraction of the cost of a set of tb's, they will even remap the ecu to suite. It would be interesting to know how the stock 172/182 engine would handle the conversion
