Bike carriers..which one will fit???

  Clio Sport 172
Guys, I do alot of mountain biking and at the moment I use a rear mounted carrier which absolutely does my head in...loads of straps and not very practical....

I am looking at getting the Thule roof bars and also the Thule Proride carriers to fit onto the bars for the bikes to sit in.
Has anyone used/fitted these to their Clio?

I got a 172 2001 ( 02 ) and I dont know how it will fit onto the car..i.e runners or?

I also want to be able to wip the racks on and off when not being used:D

Any info on what I can get for this?

as for the actual bike racks mate, i would look at halfords professional models as i have had a set of 4 for 18 months now and used them 2-4times a week and never had a problem. Big thumbs up form me.

I think I am going to go for the Thule complete set, Foot kit, bars, locking kit and 2 aero bars..I can order them all at the same time then:D
Prices dont seem to bad either, £230 for everthing ( 2 carriers ).

How easy are roof bars to fit, and how exactly are they fitted?

Has anyone just gone for all Thule?

I'd be interested to hear peoples opinions on this as well... My rear hatch is looking very sorry for itself at the mo - as is my bike. :(

Good riding down your way mike-evans? What bike(s) you got?
I just finished building up my Yeti ASX :D

I have a rack & two Thule racks fitted

I ride at Afan every Sunday

I like the Renault rails as they dont stick out as much as the Thule ones

I have the racks that you have to take the front wheel off - just seem really secure to me - held by the front fork - I go like hell with the bike on!

Bike - 5 year old Whyte 46 - set up for bigger hits

Also where the rails sit againts the paintwork I have vinly stickers - mine are black to match the car (u could use clear) helps to protect your paintwork

White's Level is supposed to be fairly awesome down there. Hoping to come and have a blast around there sometime.

Is that the Whyte with the Mavericks on the front?

I got a Trek top fuel 7, just fitted Avid juicy seven front and rear brakes with 203 mm rotors, still bedding them in.....

I ride up at Afan everyweek/weekend.
I do the Penhydd, The Wall and The Whites Level, looking at doing the new one down at Brecfa on the weekend if weather is ok?

We could have a quality mini-meet / blast on the bikes... Better than just standing around discussing the bore size of our exhausts. ;)

I've got Hayes Stroker's with 203's front and rear (bigger than the standard discs on a Toyota Yaris - fact). Think the 203 on the rear is overkill to be honest. Locks up far too easily and doesn't seem to offer much more in the way of cooling over a smaller disc. I'll probably drop down to a 180 at some point.

I am sure I seen your car up at Afan bike centre car park on Sunday, I was looking at the roof carriers, never seen them before on a Sport...

I rode the Penhydd on Sunday....

Ye I think 203 is far to big on rear, mine locks up quite easily with no effort at all!!

I ordered Renault bars and Thule Proride carriers this morning.
Renault bars, £88,
Proride carriers x 2 £120.

I went for the Renault bars over the Thule bars because they looked better/neater on the pics that I seen on here, and also £40 cheaper...:D

Anyone fitted Thule Proride carriers to Ranualt bars?
If so how easy are they to fit?

Nice one Mike

FYI - I replaced the Thule fixings with M6 stainless hex scews & nuts - so that they are on permenant & less bulky.
