Bike rack & my V6

  Mk2 V6
Evening!

I'd like to use my V6 to take my bike & kit to triathlons / TTs etc. I can fit most of my gear in the (front) boot, but I would need to carry the bike on a bike rack.

Do you know if it is possible to fit a bike rack over the rear window? I would have thought it was possible, as it is basically the same as my mate's 182 Trophy thing and you'd have thought you could carry a bike on the back of one of those..

Your thoughts..?

I think you earn too much money, and you sound buff and well toned....

Wanna buy my wife??

Seriously though, it should technically fit. Best thing to do is pop down to renault and ask them to trial fit one. If they break your car, its their fault!

the boot is basically the same as any other Mk2 Clio, so IMO it will fit no problems!

Thanks for the replies. If Thule come recommended, I'll sniff them out on eBay.

You never earn enough. Not when you've got a missus anyway!

Yep - should be fine. Just the larger boot spoiler of the Mk2 V6 would be a final consideration.

Personally, I think you should be slapped with a wet fish for even considering putting a bike rack on the rear of Vee - but hey, it's your car! :rasp:

Can you get a roof thing for the v6?

Personally I think bike racks with a muddy mountain bike on suit performance cars. Shows you really do mean bussiness not just in the safety of your car.

I've used a boot mounted bike carrier on both my Trophy and the 172. It works no problems.

I'm tryin to get the thule roof bars though as I'd prefer the bikes on the roof.

Thanks guys.

I'm new to cars in general (having ridden motorbikes for the last 5 years) so what's the deal with roof versus boot mounts? I'd rather stick mine on the back, than on the roof but are there any differences either way?

roofrack is the preferred option, make sure to protect the roof where the kit mounts to prevent scratching.

A thule kit as Dave mentioned would suit, same roof dimensions as a normal clio 98 - on.

The spoiler will get in the way of a lot of bootracks but you can get adapters which look like little dumb bells, they sit inside the boot at the top taking the load inside as opposed to on the spoiler or on the glass.

I'd use a piece of inner tube on the straps over the spoiler to prevent paint damage.

But tbh go roofrack.

Rufstuf has the genuine Renault roofrack and uses Thule / Halfords bike carrier on it. Thule is good but quite expensive. The Renault roofrack is lower profile and looks better.

Thule systems are modular, you'll require:

Roofbars (which go across the roof)
Bike Carrier (one per bike)
Kit (model specific fittings)
Footpack (what attaches the roofbars to the kit)

Costs about £100 + bike carriers IIRC.
