Bilstein B14 vs Cup shocks + H&R

  BMW 120D M Sport
Hello everyone,

I purchased an Alien green 200 yesterday, It is currently fitted with Bilstein B14 coilovers however these aren't what I'm wanting for the car.

Has anybody had standard cup shocks with H&R springs before then swapped to Bilstein B14's and can let me know how they compare?

The roads around my area are far from ideal for coilover's and I'm only looking at doing the odd track day so after something abit softer for the road

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Hi Scott :) glad you got home okay yesterday and survived the long journey and the rain.

As said the H and R's on cup shocks are a very nice ride and still give a substantial amount of lowness in your life.

Here are photos of the 2 AG's i have owned. The full fat had H and R's with cup suspension on it.

@NorthloopCup bought my first AG of me and he tracked it and i believe it performed very well for him on the track.

i think from most the reviews you see online, the grams springs with cup shocks would suit your requirements better.
i use H&R's with later cup shocks on my track car and love them, but people often complain they're crashy.

I’ve got a set of Cooksport springs (early top mount) if intrested? Was happy with this set up on cup dampers but the front dampers started leaking so I got coilovers.

Ive never seen rain like it Paul 😂 was sat at 50 for almost 170miles of the journey! I just need to get it back to as clean as it was on your drive now 😂

Thanks for the replies, I’ve bought this car for abit of fun its not going to be my daily by any means however its not forgiving AT ALL when you hit rough bits of road,

That’s what im after is just abit more softness for when driving on roads that have been patch worked back together (which is almost every road down in kent) i just don’t like how crashy it is

how much do they lower the car Ben? Have you got a photo of them fitted?

Quite a bit softer Scott. I have owned 2 x 200's with Bilstein coilovers and 2 x 200's with H and R's and cup struts. I do prefer the lowered stance of the coilovers and learnt to live with the ride but the H & R's were lovely in comparison but just not low enough, lol.

Hi Scott.
Bilsteins for a 200cup are rock hard aren't they! I also had an alien green cup with bilsteins and at times did think they were too hard. I stuck with it and actually really liked them after a while. I also have bilsteins on my 182 too but they feel really soft compared to the 200.

I would pick the non cup oem dampers if you want it to be soft.

Are we talking B14 coilovers or the specialist Bilstein sets through Pure Motorsport and (I think) Jade Developments?
The B14 is certainly a road orientated kit - the others rather more track focused...
