Black Some cont... :-)

Arnold Clark just caled and said it was a blocked EGR valve that was causing the black smoke! They have cleaned it and the problem has been resolved.

What would cause this to become cloged? Should they realy have replaced it? Is cleaning it a cop out?

Is this on a diesel i take it, they usually block up because of sooty exhaust deposits mixed in with oil and then it becomes hard, which stops the valve from working properly, it happens to them all over time, as for being a cop out, if it works freely and you have no more problems then don't worry, if it cloggs up again then insist on a new valve.

Yeah it is on a desil. Was just wondered if cloging was a sign of a valve on its way out.

Cheers for the advice mate.

sorry superfast. I am the worlds number 1 stress merchant!! I need to chill out big time. Heading for a breakdown!!!

Now no one is talking to me……..

Fear

Paranoia

I need beer to sort the fear and something rhyming with paranoia for that. Beer almost rhymes with it.

What do you mean? What are you trying to suggest?

Now people are talking about me. Can't trust anyone.

Agggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Nope they didn't wash it.

And they didn't actualy fix anything!! there is still the same black smoke as before the cleaned the valve.

They also told me I was lucky as cleaning that valve isn't under warenty but they did it as a good will gesture!!!

Great back in tomorrow then!!

They block up its reasonble common.

Its caused down to a few facotrs one is that there run at very low rpm a lot where the EGR vlaver diverts the air if you run at higher rpm all the time then it doesn't open so it cannot get dirty. Mines been fine after 68k.

Also running on better fuel is supposed to help.

Theres no point changing it unless its broken a new one will block up just as easy as a cleaned old one.
