Block/filler primer?? Professional opinion!

Im looking for a professional opinion on block/filler primer. How well does it work? Im guessing it has to be flattened after its been spayed on the car? Why do bodyshop use this filling primer?

Not OneHundred percent Pro.
Done the odd car, car parts and mainly doing helmets and bicycleframes.

Flattened as in sanding down yes... depending on how smooth the primer was applied and if there are any irregularities in it. (cut it down with Grit400 sanding paper or a 3M Scotchpad)

Filler Primer is for a better adhesion of the basecoat, something to grab on.
To smooth things out (quick filling), like when there's no reason for a thick filler putty over a repair area. To seal things off, like putty sucks in more paint then a sanded-over O.E.M. paint area. It evens things out.

On a final note, give it some quality time when prepping!
Proper prepping always shows through in a paintjob. Might be hard graft or it appears like going nowhere but do it!

Lol filler primer is a bit old school mate, you should be looking at getting the repair right first then use "heavy build primer"

Im no painter mate, think the correct term im looking for is high build primer. The paintwork on the nova is very very bad so its not just a case of rubbing it down smooth, if i wanted it very smooth it would have to come back to the metal its that bad, hence the reason for high build primer. I spoke to the painter today and he said that he's more than happy to high build it then flatten it before painting.

At the end of the day its a 23 year old nova track day weapon so a concours finish is not very high on the list of priorities

Yeah my thought mate. leave it to the pros. I still need to fill wee dents and get the back lines through the rear 1/4. keeps the price down
