Bloody Insurance Company...

  Iceberg 172
Been arguing with them for over a week regarding the settlement figure of my written off Cup.

They've been saying they have adverts of the same vehicle of mind with 10k miles less than mine for £500 less than they've offered.

Sent me the ads today and they're all normal 172's!!!

CLOWNS!!!!

Not being funny but have you checked your insurance details to be sure you were covered for a Cup.

You may find your next fight is that you didn't tell them what car you had originally !

Tread carefully with Insurance companies - they make stealers look like Angels !

But yes Clowns covers it ;):D

Lols they really are a joke mate, you are so far in the right it's not funny!

Did you buy the car in a private sale or froma garage by the way? Just because you paid 3800 for it that means f**k all, you brother coud have sold you it ffs!

Glass' guide rules all mate, simples. Like I keep saying if they can show you a cup similar to yours in a garage for 3800 then fine but they can't because there is none!

I'd have a field day with these clowns!

Arnt normal 172's worth more than the cups? so wouldnt you be getting more of a payout with them thinking its a standard 172 than a 172cup?

No the cups have held there value better than the normal 172s (only just though)

  Iceberg 172
How much have they offered you and how much are you wanting?

They're offering me £3800... Which yes is what I paid for it. BUT I got it cheap as it was SORN and didn't have much MOT left on it.

Glass's guide says £4715. I want £4500 minimum.

100% insured as a Cup mate... They have the reg number which states that and I also said that when I first spoke to them. It's also on my certificate. They know it's a Cup!

Private Sale mate... which is why they're comparing it to private adverts and not trade adverts apparently.

  Iceberg 172
Is the £3800 there first offer?

Yes... which i've turned down. But the girl i'm dealing with is a dickhead and swears blind that £3800 is the best offer as 1) that's what i paid for it and 2) you can get them with less miles for less money... but she's looking at std 172's!!!!!!!!!!!

  Iceberg 172
She's also said all they have to do is reimburse you to make sure you're not out of pocket.

So my next call will be asking 1) What if a paid £10k for it? 2) What if it was given to me for free?

Dunno why you're crying about all of this, £3800 is hardly an insult. I think you'll be lucky to get £4250.

Pmsl! I can't believe they are showing you private adverts they are so at it Steve mate.

Has it been women in claims you've been speaking to or have you actually spoke to an inspecting engineer yet?

Erm... If you wrote your car off and they offered you 25% less than what others are being sold for I think you'd be fucked off!

Still the bird. I'm not very well at the moment so don't really feel like an argument on the phone with her tonight... i'll wait till tomorrow!

  Iceberg 172
I have emailed her 5 adverts of similar Cups, some higher miles, some lower miles all advertised over £4750.

Insurance is a contract of indemnity though. You will have had to fill out the value of the vehicle somewhere won't you?

Value of vehicle is just to fill a box mate it's not worth the paper it's written on.

Just cos a car is advertised for £4750 or £5000 doesn't mean its worth that. You bought the car to drive, you wrote it off and you're getting your money back. You haven't lost anything but your pride!

With a big excess and an accident that was by logic, someone elses fault. You'd be pretty pissed too.

I'm not being funny but insurance companies have "fucked" me since I was 17 as I liked nice cars. So they've taken over £10k off me for the last 5 years... i've never made a claim. So now I am making a claim I'll be getting as much money out of them as possible.

I see your point though.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be doing the same. But there is only so much you can get from them. Sometimes you'll have to settle for what they offer.

What have you done about speaking to British Gas?

I love your logic. Retributive theory with a bit of generalisation mixed in for good measure.

But I can understand why you are a bit peeved tbh

It's a bit piss because on any other day 3800 wouldn't be that bad but with a large excess you need something decent payout wise to not even break even for a cup.

  Astra SRI/ Hornet
I claimed on my insurance last year a week before I was 25 and I got 4200 quid for my 172cup then 250 excess and 500 for being under 25 in the small print. That was a f**king rip.
Ya can't fight it with big companys either cos I know some1 who owns a broker but if it's a small company you can fight and probs get it back. Oh and it was Churchill so watch out if ya under 25.

I'd bend over and take it if they had valued my car properly and weren't comparing it against normal 172's!

Lols! Ah the joys of the claims department, mate they couldn't tell you what a bumper looked like.

Seems strange that you're dealing with them and not the engineer like rbs/d/line/privilege do.

I got what I wanted for my 172 which was £4,250 at the time. That was 6 months ago to.

I averaged out all like for like cars on PH and Trader and did a mean value. The mean value was £4,200 and I got a final offer of £4,250.

I was in a bit of a situation as I only insured it for £4,000 and only cost me £3,600 so lucky I got what I did.

What do you mean you insured it for? Explain?

Could I insure my car for 8k? No. Like I said it's not worth the paper it's printed on, they will use it to suit them but not to suit the Policyholder.

The story about a guy with an old ford worth 30k agreed market value, wrong, sadly he got what the car was worth, maybe 15k at the time according to adverts.

Gally like you said the what its worth doesn't help claimers at all. But at a guess if the op put down that it was worth £3800 when he insured it, thats possibly why they're offering him that?

That's what I think, they don't want to offer him more than he paid for it. I can see where they're coming from TBH, s**t as it is.

Oh don't get me wrong even I can see where they are coming from but the point is he could have bought it from a mate for 3800 that's not what it was worth.

What if your mum gave you it for free?
