Speed sensing cameras perhaps (works out average spped of all motorway traffic for updates/traffic reports etc) but I doubt they are the kind of speed cameras you are thinking about.

Types of detectors that I know of and have seen are Gatso, Specs and Truevelo. Blue cams - Im sticking with my original assumption.

Theyd never put them in on the M60, as long as the current chief of GMP stays where he is. He doesnt believe in scameras or traffic police.

Thereve always been cameras of this type on m-way bridges, but Im not sure what they do. Id have thought they measure the traffic density myself.

theres a few of them cameras round here in northwales, but my dad goes out on his motorbike with the police bikers and they said there traffic master, not speed cameras they just give indications of traffic flow.

The cameras in question are traffic master cameras they do record your average speed and number plate but this info is only used for the traffic master system, the cameras that were ontop of yellow poles were speed cameras but they were only used when the roadworks were being done recently

So what about the traffic copper who lives on the M60/M62 between Junctions 17 and 20? I see him EVERY night with a different car hes pulled over. He pulled me about 3 months ago because he thought my numberplate was fake. He let me go after 2 minutes..

They are all over the M4/M40, all they are are traffic control cameras (infrared). As per current legislation they must be yellow if they are cash machines, er sorry speed cameras.

Kel, they do still have traffic police, but there numbers are being cut drastically. Im not sure what happens with m-way police though, cos arent they on their own (central motorway police?)?

Or are they part of that but affiliated to the nearest force? I was done by Chehire police on the M56, so thought they were affiliated.

The cops have small stations next to motorway service stations - have a look next time you are there. It is law that they have to warn you that there is a speed camera with a sign and paint the feckin thing yellow. They should stop trying tol catch motorist going 10mph oover and concentrate on bloody car crime instead of not coming out and giving you a crime ref number which is useless. They might be tax disc scanner. theres some strange cameras near kwikfit in leeds too.

These cameras (blue, either roadside or bridge mounted) are currently used to monitor traffic flow & average speed only. The technology can (and most probably will) be used to issue tickets in the future.

I have already had it on good authority (from a copper) that the newest Truvelo cameras (blue, front facing, infrared lense) are linked to these, but they currently still rely solely on the 3 white rumble strips approx 5 yrds in front of the cash machine to trigger it & issue you with a ticket. I have recently driven the A14 several times to & from Essex- it is loaded with these things, & truvellos, and I relied on braking in front of the camera down to 70mph after sitting at 100 all the way between them- I got no tickets at all.
