Bonnet doesnt open!!

Car  Megane
Ok had it open twice this mornin, just came to open it and the handle has gone loose? And it does nothing!?

What can i do!?

disconnect the cable inside and hope it has only broke at the realease handle. if it has youll be able to put a pair of pliars or the likes on it and release the bonnet

yeh down at the handle ur gonna have to disconnect it and pull the centre cable and hope it isnt broke further down.

ok, i just tried pulling the handle, dont know how it comes off? but when i pull it i can here a noise in the front fender so i dont think it is the handle, apparently the catch might be jammed? Erm how do you take the handle off? thanks for your time gaz ;)

the handle inside just pulls of, towards the middle of the car, then remove the trim and that lets you in at the handle. if it has snapped further in its gonna be a nightmare to open.

ok, i can hear the wire moving so i dont think the wire has come loose, but i think the catch is jammed, any way to release it? Renault is closed and the garages i rang said, one person pull the lever, the other wobble the bonnet?

ok pulled the catch a few times from the front, no problems

Took the handle off, how do i get to the wire? Do i need to unscrew the little black thing?

ok the metal wire inside is like a brake wire off a bike and is moving freely and isnt snapped from what i can see

mine got stuck once, a few taps and jams here and there while trying to lift the bonnet did the job

with the door open pull the catch while banging gently over the bonnet hinge with the ball of your hand, then ask reno if its got a recall on it,or do that first and if it has let them fix it.

Problem is X172 that Renault service is closed over the weekend, my headlights arent fixed properly and the rubber gaskets are just on top of the battery under the hood. When you say the bonnet hinge where do you mean exactly?

Nope no luck, sick of it now. Fuckin pissed off!

Gonna go to Renault on monday and unleash a whole Palette of

On them! With my mum off course :D

the corner of the bonnet next to the wing and scuttle panel.i have this problem with mine but haven't had the recall done yet.

So the cable looks like it is working ok, but the bonnet doesn't opem, when did you last open it? what is loose under the bonnet?

Ok i took the wire out of the inside handle yesterday, it was fine but could go back and forward about 1inch easily.

I last had it open yesterday morning, changed one of my bulbs, got fed up trying to get it in, closed up came in to see what the easiest way to change the h7s are, went back out about 20 mins later.

Came to open it, handle had a little bit of resistance then the resistance dropped significantly. There is no resistance from the wire now, it is from the spring. Hope that helps, I also managed to shove my fingers above the grille and pull the clasp under the bonnet while someone else pulled the lever, no luck though :S

Sounds to me like the cable is possible not attached at the bonnet end if it suddenly became free! Its not going to be seized if it opened fine half an hour earlier. Maybe there is something stuck somewhere that you left off!

There is no real secret, the only way wee have only ever done it is to cut the grill out to gain access to the latch, (new grill aint to expensive), then you can see whats going on hopefully!

Try spraying some wd40 where the catch is through the grill (the primary catch not the latch pull).

Done now :D

Took 6 Mechanics at Renault and 2 hours.
Now opens, the cable had unlatched at the bonnet end apparently?
