Bonnet Sticking

  Monaco Blue 172
Took my car in for new radiator yesterday and its come back with the bonnet not opening. However, the bonnet can be force open by someone lifting it while someone else pulls the catch. Will thie mean I need a new catch or is there a way to fix it? If it is a new catch....how much are they? Cheers steve

  Whichever has fuel
just spray lots of WD40 into the catch and into the cable itself, then with the bonnet up, pull the catch from inside the car 20+ times, it should free it all up.

I tried the WD40 garage opened it up loads of time, got it back n its still sticking.

this is what i had to do to fix that problem on my 182...

open the bonnet (if u can!) and see on EACH side of the slam panel? (each side of the front grille, just above each headlight) u will see a little BLACK circlular, doughnuty sort of shaped object, u can twist these to bring them up or down, which adjusts the amount at which the bonnet closes when u close it down, mine were set really low for some reason, meaning the bonnet catch would not activate properly...

hope this helps :D

I have this problem too, still not been able to resolve it, and I can't get the bonnet open at all! bit of a bugger cos I've run out of window wash!

the plastic handle has busted and the cable is knackered, anyone know of a manual release option or method?

At least it wont fly open.

Or perhaps it will. If the slam panel has been re-fitted out of line the catch my be tight to one side and not actually locking.

I would get straight back to the garage that did the job and get them to sort it.
