Bonnet work

When to a local bodyshop today and got a quote for my bonnet, to be sprayed white, have a half badboy, and be smoothed, £200.

That seems liek a very good price to me, but ive never had any work done by a bodyshop before so i havent really got a clue

Make sure they get a good paint match if they are just gonna spray the bonnet. Itll stand out a mile.

White is a b**ch to match. Belive me, i work in a paint shop matey.

easy people. depends if its a solid colour or not really. If its solid then theres no reason to go into the wings. If its metallic then yea basecoat the hole bonnet and tops of wings for colour then clearcoat the lot.

I should imagine if its white it will be a solid.

A good paint place should be able to tint the paint to match bang on if you take a sample in. Some paint shops cant be arsed though.

Most solid colours are availible in basecoat as well, most new cars are COB system anyway.

Maxims bang on if its a basecoat.

Well its just plain renault glacier white, some of the stuff ive had from halfords has been spot on, and ohters havent, but they shoudl be able to match it, if not ill make them do it again :)

thats it kid youve got the right idea!

The magic is it the application and preparation NOT the paint.

Well, thats what i tell people.....

damn right, and if they do go into the wings. when its painted, look at the bottom of your wings where mud usually splashes up.. some bodyshops cant be arsed to degrease them properly and will leave road tar n sh*t on there n jus laquer over it. in which case its there forever n ever n ever so make sure theres no sh*t under the laquer there.

People give good advice on here. Very impressed.

Maxim ,

One of our customers didnt listen to our advice, Went away and lacquered his whole car without activating the lacquer.

He bought a sticky door down the next day and tried to blame us.

We laughed. a lot.
