Boston Speakers and fitting

Local audio dealer has recommended boston 16cm speakers as replacement for my mk1 fronts.

They are £80 and sound great in the shop.

But I also like some infinitys for about £100 I seen in halfords.

The dealer said when they fit these speakers they tune them to the aucoustics of the car, is he talking b***ox?

Should I just buy the infinity ones and fit them myself?

the dealer is talking b***ox, there is no way you can tune is to to sound like the car!

also, front speakers in MK1s are 13cm, you will have difficulty hiding them behind factory grilles

aha...just as I suspected......thanx for the reply mate, I think I will get the infinitys

nice one

Thats classic Ive heard some b****cks from Ice dealers before but that has to take the prize!

Just for a laugh go back and ask him how hell tune them as youre interested in what hed do to your car.

Boston are class speakers to be honest mate. Had them in 2 cars I will have them in the third. I have some Infinitys as well, and the bostons I had upfront were miles better than the Infinity Kappas I had in the rear. I would stick with Boston even thou he is feeding u bull about the accoustics of the car. Although im sure thats also used on the Boston marketing im sure of it. As Car Electronics fed me the same line.

they are the boys yes !!!

the bostons did sound good in the shop, but then they would do, they are embedded in a wooden enclosures!!

thanx for advice, I think I will buy those but fit and tune them myself!!

Not sure I fell for it Pete, but since I have installed a few systems and used all well know brands of speakers i came to my own choice after listening to the MG demo car at Car Electronics and was impressed. And those who heard the sound from my old 172 it had a really good balance and clear sound. No distortion what so eva at high volume. In my old RT I got the same results even when that was the lower priced Boston model.

ok well this morning I got this back from boston:

A professional installation can make an OK
pair of speakers sound impressive, and a High quality pair of speakers sound
amazing.

Depending on the complexity of the rest of the system a great deal
of tuning may be required.

Anything from setting gains and volume levels, to
tuning EQs and crossover points can have dramatic effects on the systems
overall sound. Professional installation techniques are also important.

Ensuring that a proper seal is established around the speaker is vital to
mid bass response, and on our component crossovers there are adjustments
that can change the sound a great deal. For the most in depth answer discuss
the dealers installation with them.

mmmmm....have I taken a walk into bull***t bouleavard again?

Depends on how techy u wanna be mate, slap the speakers in and you will hear the difference from the standard speakers. I can only praise Bostons on being excelent speakers.

^^^mmm... I hear that, I am thinking I will go the boston route, especially when you say youve had infinity and these are better.

Thanx for the links the bear, those are cheap!

just going to toss a coin on whether I pay them 35 to install and tune or whether they are just going to put them in and laugh!

I had the same fronts as Deeg, not cheap but very very good. There are also lower ranged speakers from Boston that are good.

Theyre not cheap, but I got a good deal on them, like Clio172boy said, damm good though.

What ever speakers you put in (at £80) you will notice a massive improvement on the standard ones, which are pretty awfull.

Just depends on what you are after, loud or good sound etc.
