Bought these 17 alloys for my 1.6 16v...

Hi there,

Some of you may have seen my garbled ramblings in some of my posts over the last couple of days about alloys on a 1.6 16v and all my concerns about it.

Well, I finally succumbed. I thought Sod It and just ordered them anyway. PERSONALLY (and alloys are a very personal thing I reckon) I think that for the price, they are very nice. I got them from Rochford on a special offer. These are them:

They cost £375 inc.vat (with 4x Premium 205/40 tyres included) Plus there is a £25 delivery. So all in they were £400 exactly.

Now I just have to hope that:

A> They supply any spigot rings or whatever Ill need as Im gonna fit them myself.
B> The damn things dont rub my arches!!!!! (please, please, please dont!)
C> My car doesnt look like a bloody pile of dirty when its on these 17"ers as it will raise my clios height a fair bit I reckon.

and IF I get through all that.....then I have to see about getting it lowered 35-40mm to compensate for the on stilts effect..... Lets see eh?

Ill let u know how it goes, and ill post pics if i ever get as far as getting them on!! Then ill be bugging you all about the best way to lower it to reduce the gap between the wheel and the arches.

No-one else got any comments?

youll deff want it lowered. You shouldnt have no problems either

it will look like a 4x4 so normally best to lower first matey.

other than that they will be fine, you should get the rings with it too.

as long as you got et38 4x100 fitment.

(ps i an see why u wanted to swap, the originals are poo)

lol i put the standard (as above) on over xmas made my car look like a little toy, put my 17s bk on whole different look, i have got 17s mate and lowered 60mm on my 1.6 16v RSI and i dont get a bean of rubbing ,maybe a bit of touching on full lock, get em on get it lowered then post again

Those pics were taken a while back. Ive got different alloys to whats on the pic at the moment, but they are 15" softline 5-spokes (bit like TSW Stealths if you remember those!). So they are better than the originals but still a bit poo.

Yeah, im reassured now that they will fit but id sooner get them on first before i lower them! AFter all, i may lower it too much! Besides, i need to find somewhere reputable and reliable up here near Northwich (Near Warrington, Runcorn etc) that will be able to lower it for me and not rip me off

Any ideas on where to take it? Should get alloys tomorrow all being well!

Gonna look pretty good and for the price you cant complain. A young lady I work with has ordered a set exactly the same except for being 15".

any car garage could lower your car really-not really something they could mess up. Expect to pay from £40 to £100. Anymore and there taking the piss. You can go 40mm or 60mm no problems.

Ive some 40mm used springs. drop a line if you want them £15 plus postage(cost me £120 from halfords)

at one point before the 172 was released the 1.6 was top of the range so some have the leather plus other features like the facory fitted skirts with normal arches.

Cant wait to get them on. So, you reckon I could drop it 60mm?? even with the 205/40/17s? I dont wanna drop it so far that it scrubs the arches in any way. Id probably go for 40mm (depends how high the car looks unlowered I guess!!)

Yeah its got full matching blue Leather inside on all seats. 4 x airbags, Renault fitted bodykit (side skirts and rear spoiler). Ive not actually seen another like mine to be honest! - though its certainly not the best kit ive seen by a long shot - just a bit more unique. When I drop it to the deck and get my wheels on then I doubt ill do much more to it as I prefer subtler styling. Though I do need a back box too. Though I HATE back boxes that sound like fookin ferraris coming when the car isnt a ferrari! I mean, mines onluy a 110bhp 1.6 - why would I wanna wake up the neighbours to tell them that?
I just want a nice chrome pipe, subtle and pretty quiet - any ideas?

Thx for the comments lads - I cant get time off work to recieve the delivery now as I have deadlines (Im a games designer on a tight schedule)
so irts gonna be Friday when I get them, then It will be dark after work and my girlfriend will be coming to see me so I might not get them on while Sarurday....Ill be sure to post pics of my on stilts machine heh
