Brake calipers from other cars

Are there any 4/6pots from other cars (Porsche, Ferrari, bigger Renaults etc) that'll fit under standard 172 wheels?

Feature in PGTI this month that has a 306 with F360 calipers fitted has inspired me

the ferrari calipers aren't that expensive (if you buy them from an other source)

the Porsche 996/7 6pot calipers aren't that expensive

on some of the 911 models the ceramic discs are a 5k extra, certain porsche calipers arent alot to buy

dosnt always work out cheaper though using parts off other cars, did pads and discs on a ford racing puma and the customer had a bill of nearly 450 quid !

A mate of mine has Porshce calipers on his S3. It has been through 3 sets of discs in as many weeks as it just can't help but warp them.

Yep. He's had no end of trouble with them.

His other motor is a 275 bhp G60 mk1 Golf which he built himself from a bare shell so he has a good idea as to what he's doing.

i would of thought they would be Alcon, seeing as thats what ford mainly use.

Powerstation do a Porsche 6 pot conversion for the impreza, so its do-able.

Just find the calliper, get someone to machine you the plates, if they will work with standard discs then fine, if not get a two peice disc made up, job done.

Probably best part of 600 quid for brackets and discs.

Buy something like our compbrake kit, and for a fiver i will stencil any name you want under the sun onto them!

good ducting to the brakes, and depends what wheels he is using.

a nice open design would be best!

driving gently for a good 10-15min without using the brakes, you need to get plenty of air to them

FRP has alcon 4 pots, think they have issues you gotta maintain em quite a lot iirc.

clios use a single large piston caliper (pair of) on the front

4 pot is basically using 4 pistons per caliper (all smaller than the 1 large one) to basically evenly distribute the force over the pads

My friends whos dad owns Midland Ferrari told me that all he does for big brakes is get second hand Calipers off supercars, Re Furbs them and has brackets made up.

Sure he got some Brembo Maserati 6 pots for about £80 for his Golf. You can buy a refurb kit for them for cheap as cheaps.

Very trick mod that doesnt cost that much.

I'm sure some of the mechanics on here (I.E. Fred) Knows a place who will knock up a set of brackets?

standard callipers are just a large single piston, and the design allows for one side to push and the other to pull, creating a clamping force on the disc.

simple and fairly effective setup.

There's a guy with a Leon Cupra R (although I think it just has a Cupra R kit on and may not be an actual "R") with 6 pot Porsche calipers. 14.1" at the front and 12" at the back!
