Brake fade...

How much difference does wheel design make to brake fade?

ie- do more open wheels let more air in, and thus keep the brakes cooler, or does it really not make that much difference?

Was thinking of getting a set of turbines to use as track wheels, but they only have teenie vents on them, will this mean the brakes heat up quicker?

Opinions please?

182 wheels are usless.
With very hard use with Turbines you cn heat them uip and bend them the best I know in the Renault range for wheels for track use are are the turrini or the dynamic alloys.

I want some track wheels on a budget mate, few people on here selling turbines dirt cheap, worth hundred squid surely?

Is it not worth swapping 16" turinis for 15" turbines then?

Have been out in subways car a bit and on 15's that handled so much nicer.

I'd get some dynamic alloys as there better never know anyone overheeat them but I've known them overheat turbines (admitely they were a nutter on track).

Youd' have to be driving very very hard though on super hard brake pads at relitivly low speed to get this sort of problems though.

Whats the offset like? will i have any problems fitting them to a cup?

i prefer 15's.

Cheaper tyres, more predicatable and chuckable.....i just like the 'feel'.

Offset for the turbines is -36, so almost the same.

And the turbines, it can be debates, have the small fins in a directional fan manner which will draw air through them.

nope, they will actually add 4 mm track total to your car, nothing to worry about.

the fins will point forward on one side and backwarks on the other, not a big deal....its debatable but i've never worried about it.

They are giant alloy heat sinks.

in my opinion mine has more grip with the 16's but its a complete go-kart with the 15's you can really chuck it about!

the mk1 16V's came with the air deflector plates to make air push out through the turbines.

The ph1 19's (bless em) came with proper brake duct piping from the front bumper.

You want air to go from the wheel tub out through the wheel.

The fade will coem in quicker than say with multispoke 16's or similar.

15's are best for the reason Ben stated, good tyres at great prices.
