Brake fluid which one ?

  Clio 172 Cup
Hi guys was wondering what is the best brake fluid to use

and should i be using dot 5.1 or dot 4 as im sure i was told that 4 is better than 5.1 as 5.1 takes on water is this correct ?

  a thirsty one
some long life dot 5.1 i used for my last change was good value for money Motul was the brand and needed 1litre for my 182.

depends on your use i guess if you do some country roads blasts/rives or maybe a little track use im glad i opted for 5. if its just road use and commutes etc 4 will do fine.

  Clio's
5.1 just has a higher boiling point so on track when the brakes are getting abused 5.1 is better as it doesnt overheat as quickly but for normal road driving then 4 is fine and probable cheaper

does that not just come down to the boiling point specification of the fluid your using rather than the dot type ?

i think some 5.1 absorbs mositure etc more than a 4. prob some compromise with the boiling point for racing etc so to make sure its at its best you should change it more often. i think some 5.1 are designed to last longer though i have some long life stuff in mine.

MOTUL RBF 600, without a doubt.. highest dry boiling point.. Needs changing every 3-6 months though as its only DOT 4, but you'll never get brake fade again!
