Brake fluid

  RB 182
Few questions regarding my 182:
  • I've noticed that my brakes didn't seem as good as I thought they should and it appears my brake fluid is quite low, can I just top it up with more or do I have to bleed the whole system?
  • Saw on another post on here about this fluid, is it worth getting it or is there something else I should be getting.

If your brake fluids quite low , either you have a leak , your discs could be worn or your brake pads are getting low . I'd be inclined to think the latter . You can top it up but after checking your pads / discs i'd do a full bleed like legohead says .

IIRC the Renault schedule suggests that the brake fluid should be changed every 4 years. it's porous and loses it's efficiency over time.

if you're going to use a 'performance' fluid, you'd deffo need to change all of it to see whatever benefit might be there (not just bleed it - although apols if i've misunderstood what you guys meant by bleeding) - otherwise you're just mixing old fluid with a small quantity of new fluid

^^ Make sure you add more of the same type, of just change the lot.

Just had some new brakes, pads and fluid today. Didn't think that it would really need new fluid until I picked it up from the garage! Feels so nice now :)

By bleeding i mean't changing the fluid . I wouldn't wait 4 years , lol . 12 months tops for me especially if you do average mileage of around 10 -12k a year . Any dot 4 will be sufficient . Castrol response is good stuff .

Just got my brake fluid today, I don't know what was in before so is it still ok to put the Castrol performance in?

yes. change all of it though.
.
practically speaking, the only fluids that you can't mix these days are silicone and glycol. the vast majority are glycol (as is Response) and it's highly unlikely you've got silicone in there at the moment.
