Hi,
I got my brake servo and master cylinder changed by a renault dealer on tuesday.
Driving home from work tonight (back shift) I noticed that my brake lights were permantly on.
When I got home I had a look and found that the brake lights were controled by a switch on the pedal. Its sort of like a plunger that contacts with a part of the brake pedal. When you dont press the pedal the plunger is pushed in, and when you press the brake pedal the plunger comes out.
I pressed the switch plunger in a bit by hand and the brake lights went off.
Can I blame renault for not setting this switch after they changed the servo/master cylinder? or would they not have touched it.
I also noticed that although the plunger of the switch seemed to be secured fine the wiring of the switch seemed a little loose, although to be fair it may have always been like this.
Considering it was dark and I didnt have a torch on me at the time I was looking at it I couldnt see if there was any adjustment in the switch.
The brake lights were permantly on because even when the brake pedal was not pressed in the part of the pedal that is supposed to press the plunger of the switch in was not pressing it in enough.
I can make a tempory fix by putting a few layers of tape on the part of the pedal that contacts the plunger in order to press it in slightly further therefore restoring normal brake light operation.
Anyone any experience in adjusting this or know if it should have been adjusted after the servo and master cylinder were changed.
Hope to hear from you soon!
