Brake overhaul

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
ok going to redo my brakes completely as the squeaking is doing my sweed and i need new rear disks anyrate

ok what do you think to this

Rear =
new mintex disks
standard pads
uprated bearings

fronts =
standard disks (already on and almost brand new)
k-tec ultimax pads

are braided lines worth it?
had them on my ph1 and tbh i didnt notice much difference at all

  Works...kind of...
Re: break overhaul

Who's having a break?

Why not go for EBC Green/red pads? And uprated disks on the front too? I'd rather have uprated on the front rather than the back.

IMO you wont feel a difference in braided hoses, they just wont burst under extreme conditions (racing)

Re: break overhaul

rears - standard discs and pads

fronts - standard discs and DS2500's or Mintex 1184 (or whatever the number is...)

braided lines wont make too much difference imo, but a good mod none the less as at least they shouldn't need replacing... even though one of mine on the Williams split lol

Re: break overhaul

ill leave the disks on the front for now as i said they are almost brand new so no point spending money for the sake of it.
and i already have the mintex rear disks

Front:
Brembo MAX front disks (and sell your standard disks if they are new like you say)
EBC Green Stuff pads

Rear:
Standard Disks (come with bearings already fitted, dont bother with uprated)
EBC GreenStuff pads (low brake dust make it worth while over genuine, no point from a performance view, standard is more than enough)

no point spending all that money on brakes and not puting decent or atleast new fluid in so change that too, and for the sake £60 or what ever they cost these days a set of braided hoses wouldnt go a miss!

Mintex 1144 Pads on Std Disks will do and yeah do the Brake Lines if your Changing bits anyway

because of my wheels they put more strain on the bearings but ive found a cheap source for oe ones now so ill be sticking with them, n for the price they are it doesnt matter if i go through a set a year

Laura,

My setup at the mo is top notch. Front, Andy has recently put on Brembo max discs and Mintex 1144 fast road/race pads, on the rear, not that they do anything but I have K tec cross drilled discs and EBC heavy duty kevlar. Oh yeah and stainless steel lines all round which also make a big difference imo

Laura -

How much were your pads from halfords using trade? iirc they are £24 normally.
