Brake pad warning light

Can someone please tell me if there is a warning light that will appear when brake pads get too worn. I was told this recently but had never heard of it before and was thinking of getting my pads checked soon.

If there is a warning light I guess I wont need to bother!Thanks

There is no low pad warning light on my 1.4 Dynamique so Im guessing there wont be one on yours. You can get a pretty good idea of how worn they are by looking through the spokes of the wheel.

Dont seem to get this on a Clio - 172 doesnt have a warning light either.

Nope, there is definitley no warning light. The wear rate seems to be dependent ont he driver. Got 24 out of mine, were as my mate in on his third 3rd set in a similar mileage, though he definitley hammers it!!!

how low do brakes have to get before youre supposed to replace them? at my 12000 mile service, renault put my rears at 70% worn, fronts at 50%.

To me, thats pretty bad! (well, the rears anyway)

your rears are defo low and probably wont make the next service.the fronts are only 50% so loads of wear on them yet.

When at 100% worn does that mean theres nothing left of them or just that theyve reached the safe limit and need to be replace ASAP?

still work as good,the 70% just means how much pad has worn away.so you have 30% of the original pad thickness left. for rear pads 70% would mean about 3-400 miles of use left depending on how you drive it.

Is the 70% not 70% left???? My fronts have been replaced at 24k, but my rears have 50 left. Strange they should be so worn after 12K

My 93 Clio has a wire running through the pads, always thought that was a wear sensor? Its not connected at the moment tho cause I couldnt be arsed fixing it *lol*

Doesnt that mean your break fluid is low??

they sometimes use the same warning lamp but on newer cars where there is no pad wires then it would mean low fluid level which could be an indication of worn out pads.

the percentage shown on renault service sheets is how worn they are not whats left.

17 years mega bump!
Hopefully now everybody's aware that a rear pad with 5mm of material on is far from worn out, they start at around 7-8mm thick new so.. Renault used to trick you into buying new pads for no reason - tricked me the first time too..
