Brake pedal switch - covered by warranty?

Hi,

I have the ABS, service light and brake warning lights intermittantly appearing together. It happened 3 times last week, but when the car had been stopped and started some time later, they had gone.

I have read up on these warning lights which suggest it may be a fault with the brake pedal switch. My car is still in warranty (only just though) and if this was the case, is it covered?

I have spoken to Reno and the car is now booked in for them to check this out. I recently had a 36k service done about 6/7 weeks ago and they advised me the brakes needed to be done, but that the aux belt was in good condition and said it didn't need changing. (even though the service books advises it is changed)

I chose not to let them do it because of their prices so the pads and belt were done just after xmas by somebody from Cliosport. I have absolutely no doubt that the work was done correctly by somebody who knew what ther were doing, so I don't think for a minute the warning lights are associated with the work he's done.

Reno are saying that because they didn't do the brakes, it probably win't be covered under the warranty - is this just a cop out or can they do this? I did purchase some kind of additional warranty anyway when I bought the car so if Reno won't do it for free, it may be covered but I'll have to check. I'd much prefer to get it sorted when it's with Reno - can anybody confirm if it should be covered regardless of what work I've had done?
Many thanks

if the guy fitted genuine parts then they have no way of backing out of it. even so the fault is in your brake light switch and not with the brake components on the hub. no way has the other garage disturbed that fault. just tell reno that u know your rights and its a fault which has apeared under warranty so they have to change it!

Consumables like brake pads and tyres don't need to be done by Renault to ensure your warranty! They're spinning you a line!

Renault don't want to mess about with failures on parts others have messed with but realy just chnaging pads cannot go wrong just ring Renault Uk and ask them to sort it or try another dealership.

never tell a dealer where stuff had been changed ie brakes as they dont need to know just say they have been changed

Possibly advise you have spoken to a specialist that says the brake switch is a common failure on these vehicles, and how would fitting replacement genuine parts cause a problem? if the service manager has 1/2 a brain he would know its not related.
