Brake piston trouble

Was in the process of changing my pads on the rear, and couldnt get the piston in far enough, it seemed to have no movement in it, yet when you put the handbrake on it pushes out as it should, it just doesnt withdraw like it should. Smacking it with a hammer wont even more it.

Its now out to the point where you cant even get one pad in.

What do i need to do???

Are you turning the piston as your pushing it in? You need to push pretty hard if your not using a windback tool, it'll take a while but keep turning whilst putting pressure on it and eventually it'll go in.

Beating it with a hammers always the best option, never forget that.

You need to screw it in by turning it

We eventually figured this out, but thanks for the help!

Judicious use of all the above methods resulted in success.

Cheers for the help.
