Braking Firmness

Hi all...

i currently have a pair of TAROX 40 groove G88s with DS2000 pads at the front.. rear setup is just standard, anyway i cant help but notice when braking, the padal feels little soft.

i think the time has come to bleed my braking system, just to make sure i have any air pockets hiding out. Can someone also confirm whever these will increase the car braking firmness http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=204http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=204 "Braided Brake Lines" it appears that the braided hoses prevent the tubes expanding under heavy braking resulting in a firm brake like feel...

My question is.... has any noticed any change in brake performance in having fitted a set of these?

cheers

I am waiting for my "braided brake lines". Mine are custom made and Im going for this for one reason. Really need to change the brake lines, so why wont do it for someones better?

I guess that it only is notice under heavy braking (like on a TrackDay... late and heavy braking).

I had my braking system checked when new pads (DS2000) and discs (Brembo Max) were fitted and everything was OK. I didnt get any soft pedal feeling after and before the change. My lines are standard items.

perhaps its worth trying to bleed it, but braided hoses may possibly help - in some cases i heard of it did work.

Maybe simple change the fluid first. You will probably need to do it when fitting new lines anyway...

pozdrawiam ( cheers ) Maciek

dont know... This one got me thinking...

Try to bleed.. and bleed.. and bleed...

The calipers must heat up really good, so the oil that is in the calipers must lose time to time their hability has oil... bleeding often may do the trick. Getting the "heated" oil from the caliper...

Maybee Im posting rubish... eheheh, just needed to get this off my head. :)

ive got the same discs mate only with the TarOx race/rally pads, ive had new fluid put in and my pedal also feels soft

i was gonna have braided lines fitted but Demon Tweeks sent the wrong set and by the time mechanic discovered this it was too late so ive got standard ones on

i reckon the braided hoses would definitely increase firmness, i just wish i had em !

Thanks for all your advise peeps, im going to try and bleed my brakes in the next week or so.... (when i find time basically) as someone said above, i cant go wrong if its not the fluid ill look into the replacing the hoses etc... ill let you know either way.

BTW does anyone know if their are any settings on the master brake cylinder i can tweak with?

cheers

new disks and pads take time to bed in.. bed in means to conform to the shape and surface contour of the disk and the ange of the caliper.

before you start spending money for no reason, decide WHERE the problem is.

how are you bleeding thebrakes ??.. start at the bleed point furthest away from the master cylinder in pipe length terms.. use an easi bleed kit.. it works..!.

if no bubbles appear.

take a pair of mole grips and a small piece of thick rubber (a corner of an old car mat will do.. apply a clamping force to the brake flexy pipe starting at the rear.. at the beginning of the pipe, and at the end of the pipe one at a time.. ie test with the clamp near the body end, then near the opposite end. (or buy a couple of flexy pipe clamps from a tools distributer)

if you feel no difference in pedal pressure between the tests it is unlikely to be the pipe.

if you find that by clamping one of the pipes that a big difference is made to pedal pressure (and the above checks out).. then its one of the following..

Fooked master cylinder (Unlikely) depends on the results below and the way the circuit is split....

Air in that corner.

incorrect beeding of components.

air - bleed

incorrect bedding..

take out the offending pads and check thatt here is an even surface ware. get a m8 t press the brake pedal and watch the pad movement, does one side move before the other ?.. does one side of one side move first (eg the pad doesnt move squarely). if this is the case, then the bedding in process has not finished and no flexy pipe in the world would help..

----------------------

uprated flexy pipes are not really needed on a modern vehicle at all, however, if you have to change the pipes, you may as well go with them

If however, the pipes are the culprit, then it is time to replace all the seals as well.. ie master cylinder internal seals, and all caliper / drum cylinder seals.

hi mate, just thought i would let you know, today i had my car in the garage to check out the rear brakes and handbrake cable, and possibly front calipers as my car was drifting to the right slightly at any speed over 50 when braking

my mechanic said i didnt need new shoes (RT) or drums or anythin but he has reset the handbrake cable and rear brakes, i think thats what he said anywayz lol, anyway, my pedal is now a LOT firmer, my brakes bite VERY well now, and quickly, im seriously impressed with the difference, its amazin, the pedal feel is now very good and solid

so, i would advise you check your brakes, as you wouldnt believe the difference its made to mine, cost me £30
