Brand of Headunit!?

  Twingo Dynamique
Ok, so as pretty much everyone knows there are a fair few makes/models of audio equipment for our cars.

The question I have is, Is there a certain brand that stands way above all the rest? Or does each brand have it's positives and negatives.

I know i could trawl the web and search for all the answers but thought i'd post here to hear from other's experiences with different brands... Sony/Pioneer/Kenwood etc etc

Cheers, James

I have a pioneer in mine, its my first car so its the first proper decent head unit I've had, but I love it!

  Listerine & Poledo
Okaaaay.

so, what do you, what is your budget etc?

If I was going single-DIN (which I would be in a Clio), I'd get
THIS
But if I wanted to save a few quid
THIS

  Twingo Dynamique
so to be honest i'm just looking to see whether certain brands are better than others or whether i should just be looking at the looks and functions of the thing!

  Listerine & Poledo
In that case I refer you to my first option ;)

Oh, I've got a sub with floor that would plug into it very nicely indeed too. You wouldn't even need to change speakers then

  Twingo Dynamique
difference between those?? and i would also need to buy stalk adaptors etc on top of that....

  Listerine & Poledo
If you get in touch with MT Audio, he'll probably be able to fix you up a deal for all the stuff you need :)

  Twingo Dynamique
yeah i was asking him about adaptors (price etc) but i dunno what headunit i currently have.. all the standard clio HUs that i've seen have looked exactly the same... :S

  Polo + Micra
as a man once said on here (can't remember who it was)

buy any alpine that doesn't have a visible cd slot

and he is right

I've got a Alpine CDA-9812RR had it over 10 years iirc and it's faultless, still like new. Awesome head unit, 60w and the screen tilts too.

Defo recommend Alpine

  Polo + Micra
they are just better head units

usually have
better displays
more outputs
higher output
more tuning settings
can take upgrades (bt,dab etc)

I'd normally say go for the top-whack 1-DIN alpine everytime, but now it's silly not to buy DAB. And if you can get bluetooth in there too, it's a no brainer.

Given OP seems unlikely to pour thousands into sik ICE, any Alpine with internal HPF and an output for a sub should be more than enough. Things like IMPRINT are great but useless in this context.

Later on, you can always throw in the Alpine "power pack" amplifier and upgrade the speakers but, for a "stage 1", Alpine HU and the sub (using filters to cut bass to OEM speakers)

the amount that my radio gets used it might aswell not be there tbh

most settings are lost on most but it's nice to have them as a little tuning can help alot

i'm yet to find a unit that comes close to my 9815 (although it think i might have found one on the alpine site:dapprove:)
