Breaking in sub!

Iv just got a sound system fitted today, a 12 inch type r sub with a mrp500 amp with components in the front, the guy at the shop (autosounds Newcastle) said i should take it easy for a while to let the sub settle or it will blow. Is this really neccessary? if so how long should i leave it or how do i ''break it in'' properly.

thanks Dan

  wait and see ;)
never herd that before you shouldnt need to break it in... everyone ino just usually turnes it on full after 2mins on installing it and ther still ok lol... just see how it goes if your not sure then take his advise

Ive heard people saying 1 hour, some 5, some even 20 hours. But i think take it easy. Dont cane it for the first few hours and you wont break anything.

If its parked on your drive, turn the sound on so its light bass, then just go inside and leave it on to break in. Otherwise when your driving you will be wanting to pump it up lol.

But make sure you have your engine on, otherwise you could go back to it and will have fun trying to start the car.

Trust me the car's battery will not last long, 10 mins for me:eek:

Yeah use it gently for at least 7 hours and then dont blast it from the moment you switch the car on in the morning

Rubbish rubbish rubbish. A sub does need running in yes. It will loosen up and sound better and more musical over time. Running in times depend on manufacturer but about 20 hours wud be about right. playing them quiet first thing in the morning is an old wives tale. Makes no difference at all!!!!!!!!! :)

Whats lost for breaking the subwoofer in??? The chap in the shops... who did the installl..... not like he knows what he's doing:rolleyes:.... says take it easy... nearly eveyrone one here does... and you lose the grand total of 20 hours without a sub running like mad. So what. You lived for however long before you had it fitted at all....

I don't think I ever "ran" it in. I pumped mine hard from the start when was testing everything was connected properly and no loose connections and never turned it down.

Only one reason I don't pump mine as soon as I start driving.....I don't want to piss my neighbours off. As soon as I'm out of my road, as loud as I want it. Had it nearly three years and no probs.

Its b*llocks about running subs in! Ive had numerous subs ranging from £40-£370 in price, and never "taken it easy" with any of them! They are covered by warranty, so if they break, they get swapped!

the only reason you should run them in is to build its enclosure after it's run in as it will sound different after it's run in.

but if it's already intalled then hard and fast from day one you wont run it in taking it gentle

Its only to loosen it up a bit, from brand new their stiff b******s and once thy loosen up theyl give more an more bass off. I would take it easy for the first few hours mate but not 20 hours. Thats a bit of a piss take.
