(brief) guide to servicing front calipers

bit schoolboy but, whilst it's fresh in mind, thought this might be useful to others

what to try if your front brakes appear to be pulling to either side, or you're experiencing uneven pad wear

other than basic tools, need:
copper grease
moly grease
thread lock
wire/suede brush
file
g-clamp, assistant
nice to have a bench vice

- remove the 2 (smaller) caliper bolts; wire brush threads
- remove caliper body & rest ontop disc; brush piston face
- remove pads; brush edges
- remove slider pins; clean and ensure not badly scored/pitted; re-grease with moly and refit; make sure boots in good cond. & properly seated. don't use copper grease for this (it's abrasive)
- remove pad seat springs and scrape clean with screwdriver/etc
- same - where springs sit in carrier
- refit springs; dry fit pads - they shouldn't be particularly tight; file bare minimum from ends if they are
- copper grease: ends of pads (where they sit on springs), piston face, lugs on caliper (where they contact back of pads, opposite side to piston)
- refit all; threadlock retaining bolts

pulling to one side or the other could also be a lazy piston (it'll be on the side opposite to the one the car's pulling to) - to help, you'd need to (carefully) work the piston out with the footpedal (best to use an assistant whilst you watch), g-clamp it back in, repeat until force required with g-clamp similar to other caliper

bit clipped, but might be of help to some
