Testing the water here, with the meet season soon upon us

A few members local to Sussex have posted up in a Sussex members thread, http://www.cliosport.net/threads/up-to-date-sussex-list.801920/ so thought why not organise a meet for couple hours, swap stories on mods and repairs. Have a little cruise out- some great roads north of Brighton. Maybe meet for a cuppa and bite at a cafe.

Brighton Devils Dyke, Brighton Marina are good destinations. Or further afield if any other suggestions. Hastings maybe?

Either a Sunday morning or 7pm ish evening be best i reckon, but thats for discussion
Maybe all meet at Pease Pottage services, then drive the back roads to National Trust site Deveils dyke then straight down to the seafront and along the coast and seafront to Brighton Marina (see post 13 for a better route description)

Have done it with other Clubs and its great fun, especially if there is some sort of motor show in Brighton Marin parade that Sunday, as there sometimes is

Post up your interest, and will sort something if enough interested. Open to everyone wherever you are from.

There would be after a bit of discussion a point when i would post up a date, time and place. Bit of discussion first i think :smile::smiley:

Myths regarding the formation of Devil's Dyke
Local folklore explains the valley as the work of the devil. The legend holds that the devil was digging a trench to allow the sea to flood the many churches in the Weald of Sussex. The digging disturbed an old woman who lit a candle, or angered a rooster causing it to crow, making the devil believe that the morning was fast approaching. The devil then fled, leaving his trench unfinished. The last shovel of earth he threw over his shoulder fell into the sea, forming the Isle of Wight.

A further variant has it that the Devil's digging was terminated by him stubbing his toe on a large rock which he kicked in anger over the hills towards the sea, then abandoning his diabolic plans of Weald destruction due to the injuries sustained. The rock landed in the area now known, consequently, as Goldstone valley in Hove. The Goldstone acquired its name from the hints of gold in its makeup. The enormous and mysterious rock now lies in Hove Park in Goldstone Valley, near where it was first discovered. It can be seen at the Old Shoreham Road end of the park and is considered to have been possibly an object of Druid worship.

Another story holds that rather than digging to flood Sussex, he was simply in a huge goat-like form, intending to crush the surrounding area. He smelt the tang of salt water in the wind, and fearing his coat would get damp (for he is vain to the point of sin), he fled leaving nothing but a hoof-print, now known as Devil's Dyke.

I'd be interested if it was Brighton area, probably wouldn't go as far east as Hastings but a Sunday morning sounds good.

Plenty of good roads in that area. Like mentioned above, Devils Dyke is a great option. Eastbourne way is also good. Inland to Alfriston/Upper Dicker (lol) are also awesome on a sunday morning early

Glad (and thanks) there is interest

For a first go, the primary route depending on where people are coming from, would be meet Pease Pottage Services A23 Southbound for those that come that way, then down A23 off at Bolney, down some country roads for the scenery for 10 miles or so, then to the Devils Dyke.

Stop at Devils Dyke to take in the air, (Maybe a drink soft/ tea coffee whatever) then head off straight toward the seafront bottom of Hove, then straight along the seafront for couple miles to central Brighton and the Royal Pavilion and Pier, then onto the Marina for a stop off/ drinks.

Then back through Brighton either onto Shoreham, (Airport for yet another cuppa) or another little jaunt back to Devils Dyke, or somewhere else.
Would need 5 or 6 to make it worthwhile in my opinion, as thats a nice little cruise number.

People can join the convoy group at whatever point they wish as approximate timings can be sent out before the meet.

Quite happy to consider other route options if majority want that, or quite happy to have another meet and cover those other routes

Its just this route is tried and tested (We had about 16 DS3s heading toward Brighton once, 3 cars had walkie talkies etc etc- great fun)

Hope you all come. As soon as we get a few more will suggest some dates :)

I'm definitely down for this! Sounds like a brilliant route if the roads you mentioned are the ones i'm thinking of! (Haven't lived this way for 3 years). I'm guessing this would be a Sunday cruise? or is that up for debate?

Considering that I haven't lived down this way in such a while and only had my 182 for just over a year, would be great to meet some of you lot

I seriously have to consider getting myself some of these!
Just a bit of fun, some have a little sneer, and some give a grim look in the serious world of motor cars
But i lovem
Stripping out my rear seats today, will have a look at where the compressor can be mounted, and suss out the cable routes i think :)

I thought about stripping out my rear seats tbh. But considering I do a few motorway trips I think I would find it too loud. Also tempted to keep the car as is and save to buy @Christ Almighty 's absolute weapon......

@Sidnancy - Not too loud, but the spare wheel rattles around a bit, so will remove that and replace with one of those "plug the hole" seals, until i can secure the spare wheel with flat iron.

Received the cable, momentary switch, and crimp set so the Cavalry charge horns in place on Saturday?

Any more interest for the meet, before we start talking dates ?

Sounds good to me! I dont have a spare so that shouldnt be a problem....tbf...more noise = more exhaust noise!

Super excited to hear these horns!

Sooooo much better with the spare removed- there hardly any rattles around the car now. some of the sound felt like it was coming from the front engine area. But with the wheel out all dodgy rattles seem to have gone

Just a bit of fun, the horns.

Any more for this- hot n sunny weather has hit now, down here on the south coast
So if we can get 6 really keen, we can start discussing dates.
Would say meet midday, for 3 hours or so on a Sunday aftnoon?

I'm happy to sit at a pub for lunch mate, won't have the car though and will be in the van so not really up for "cruising" per se.

This is as good as on my doorstep so it'd be rude not to come along, there's some great roads around there and I'm always up for some car banter.

So long as the confirmed date fits in with my family plans I'm in.

We have 8 members who have offered of support for the meet, so will suggest a couple or 3 dates in early July maybe? and see how we go

Here we go with a trio of date suggestions

Sunday 2nd July
Saturday 8th July
Sunday 13th August

General idea: Meet up at Devils Dyke and gas for half hour at 11.30, take in the views, quick beverage, drive down to Hove seafront then along to Brighton town centre, near Royal Pavilion. Then via the Pier and Madeira drive (where they do the speed trials, 1 mile straight long tarmac) and onto the Marina for another stop off. Then bite to eat at Marina, or maybe at Rottingdean White horse- or even onto Beachy Head ?

Then back through Brighton, onto Shoreham-by-sea, possibly visit the airfield, then back to Devils Dyke for cheerio's

Will probably do an earlier start 10.45 meet point at Pease Pottage Services M23 for this that want. as a nice half hour drive through country roads to get to Devils Dyke for 11.30.

Post up who is for what day.

Probably 11.30-2.30 shortest time, add an hour for anyone that wants to explore more.

Thanks

NB- MY Cavalry charge air horns installed :tongueout:
