Just been sorting out a few pics from Silverstone on sunday. It was my first proper attempt at motorsport photography, and it did take me a while to get some decent results whilst panning - although I had a few keepers at 1/60th. I didn't find the track too bad to geting decent photos, although i wasn't that impressed with the overall feel and layout - perhaps it was because it was pissing down all day...

Anyway here they are - the nuts girl was fantastic!

The BM and the vectra with the reflections in the puddle is class. Loving the two 911's chasing each other too.
Nuts Girl wins though!

the reflections were cool - here's a good one, shame the front of the car is out of focus

very good...especially for silvestone..i find that place shite for pics personally.

what lens were you using? also manual or auto focus?

Setup was just my D50 and a mixture of the 18-200mm and a sigma 70-300mm APO. I was having problems with the sigma getting sharp results at anything under 1/125th, so switched to the 18-200, which for a "slow" lens, produced pretty reasonable images. I'd love something abit quicker/longer although the amount of use for motorsport would be pretty low.

I used auto focus all day, although i made a schoolboy error by setting the focus area to the left of the frame (and forgetting i'd done it) which is why the back of the car is more in focus on a lot of shots.

Where the hell were you stood?! I assume not in a public position, I would be there more often if I could get to that sort of position!

Absolutely love these anyway, panning technique seems spot on and it's great to see some pretty slow panning, the backgrounds look great.

Most of those were taken between beckitts & chapel is it? corner just before hanger straight. Its a public place, there was quite a few people taking pics there.
