Build me a PC...

  SQ5
Right, I've been out of the game for a good 6 years and do not know what's good at the moment. I know a fair few on here are fairly knowledgeable.

Only have my work laptop which I do everything on which isn't ideal. It gets all my files from a NAS drive I have.

I'm looking to get rid of the NAS drive as a source of files and just have it as a backup drive for the PC. Another bug of mine for this is iTunes on a NAS drive is very hit and miss as to where it downloads.

I don't need a monitor but would like a decent graphics card that can output via VGA and HDMI, my TV has no more inputs left. I could get around this by using a cheap HDMI Selector, especially if PC has a BluRay drive, I can then bin off the player and rip BluRays if possible?

Unsure on anything to with motherboards etc... And what is the best processor to be using at the moment.

I can get a wireless mouse and keyboard through work, but recommendations are wanted.

So as a rough guide I'm looking at;

1-2TB Storage (possible? Which drives?)
Decent graphics card (VGA & HDMI)
Decent sound card (5.1 if cheap enough)
BD/DVD Disc Drive
Processor
Chassis/Motherboard (smaller the better)
RAM (what's the most I can use?)

I think that's everything, but I'm looking to go mid range for most bits so I get decent quality for a decent price.

Any other recommendations would be great too.

Thank you all!

It's only going to be used to keep my iTunes in tact, Media Server and a bit of video editing as would like to get into it!

Well finding a new graphics card with VGA and HDMI could be the hard bit - i suggest you just get an adapter for the VGA.

Processor-wise, if you're doing video editing I'd really recommend an i7 over an i5!

DOnt be daft, the i5 is more than good enough, IMO the i7 would be massive overkill.

Agree with that. The i5 should be more than able to cope with the demands of everyday life. Especially if you have 8Gb+ RAM and are running a 64Bit OS.

On the site I was on the other day every single one had HDMI, VGA and DVI!?

I won't be doing too much video editing but don't want it stalling my computer. My laptop can't handle anything at all!

Go for an i5 then, and what site were you on? I haven't seen a single new graphics card with VGA! They're all usually dual dvi + one hdmi/displayPort :)

Nvidia GeForce. I'm happy using HDMI now though as can replace BluRay player.
