Building a Stealth Shelf

  Suzuki Ignis Sport
I have a parcel shelf with 2 6x9 holes in it already, but wondered what type of cloth is used to go over the parcel shelf once the speakers are in to hide the fact that they're there?... stealth shelf..?

To make it completely stealth, you want another layer of thin wood over the top of your parcel shelf, to hide the bulges that the speakers make. With the cutouts around the speakers.

I'd guess any breathable cotton material will be fine as a cover.

auto acoustics. i used to have one.

Worth the money imo, were covered in acoustic cloth which you can get from the usual places like Halfords etc.

Make sure you use ACOUSTIC cloth tho otherwise youll muffle the sound.

Staple gun the cloth over your shelf. Easy.

Your doing it wrong mate. you need a piece of mdf 18 - 22mm think. If you've already made the holes in the shelf, you need to line the holes up and cut them out of the mdf with a jigsaw cutter. use about 6 flat head screws to hold the mdf to the shelf. Order some accoustic carpet and mega strong spray glue from cpc.co.uk. cut a piece of carpet bigger than the shelf, spray the shelf with the glue, smooth the carpet over the shelf making sure it doesn't dip into the holes. when it is dry, trim the edges and screw the speakers under the shelf. Easy ;)

id just buy a proper shelf personally, however ive glued stuff before and its a messy affair, you cant stretch it as well compared to a staple gun either.

Look at the proper shelfs, they are stapled. if it ever sags you can remove the cloth easier if its stapled as well, and reuse it.

It won't sag if you do it properly. I just copied the way my old shelf was done at K&M accoustics, it looks the business and a don't remember any staples. Oh and spray the mdf black (looks tidy).
