burning dvd's

  Seat Leon Cupra 290
tryed to copy a video from my harddrive to a dvd yesterday, went fine, but it didnt load on my dvd player, it said was the wrong file type, what is the right one and how do you go about burning it right? im a bit of a novice as you can tell!

you need to convert it to dvd first mate. get yourself some software such as DivXtoDVD
this will convert it to the necessary files for the dvd player to recognise. then you can burn these files via nero or whatever.

im burnin a file as we speak now, taking 3 hours but it is 3.7 gig i think and filled the dvd completely

didnt work:( burnt it using divxtodvd then my dvd player still says incorrect media, works on my pc though using the disc

Sounds like your player doesn't like recordable media. What disc are you using? +R -R? +RW -RW? Could just be compatablity problem with your standalone.
