Burning smell and clutch enquiry...

So, ive been out in the car and recently for the past week ive had a few whiffs of something hot, almost like a burning smell... It doesnt happen when i do something in particular, it just comes at random usually a smell similar to eggs... i'm assuming its something clutch related like its slipping from time to time?
Also, i learned today that apparently resting your foot on the clutch whilst driving is really bad (i'm guilty of this habbit, ive always done it!).
Allegedly, it;
1- Hurts the fuel economy
2- Wears the clutch down (somehow) because its as good as half-way engaged

Can anyone help here and confirm anything here??
Cheers.

Egg smell would be the cat i would have thought.

Clutch and brakes usually have a hot metal type smell.

I was doing some work on the car on sunday just passed there and the brakes look absolutely fine, nothing wrong with them so i woudnt see why it would have been them.
My clutch hasnt been the greatest since i first got the car, hence the suspicion haha.
I'll try to check the cat however, once the weather isnt sh!te here

This guy used to leave his foot resting on the clutch too.
