Business Antivirus

  Rav4
Hi,

The time is coming up to renew.

Currentrly use VirusScan Enterprise 8.5.0i

Installed on around 100 desktops and 6 servers.

Would you recommend carry on with this, or change to an alternative?

Please note, local machines are XP Pro. Servers are 2000 and 2003 r2.

Something like Sophos, AVG business?

Many thanks,

Gabi.

Sophos Endpoint definetely.
+ PureMessage for Exchange (if you need Anti-Spam and use Exchange)

Sophos is very good, but my experience with Mcafee 8.5 is very good, not sure if it would be worth the change, although sophos is much cheaper...does a very good job too. Also convieniently, has a 3rd party removal tool as part of the installer so would remove mcafee for you if you needed to..

Sophos FTW!

Daz, you recommend PureMessage then?

We are going to start using that when we upgrade our exchange server in Feb.

I will check it out then.

So much to fix in this place.

:)

All good fun.

Cost is always a huge thing.

I want to be able to manage everything through one console and force the installation through GP or alternative.

Excellent stuff, love this forum.

Thanks,

Gabi.

never had a problem with epo managing virus scan for me does it very well when setup i cant swap to anyone else though as its a group contract so we get very good discount

Yea, in terms of an install and let it work.. it's pretty effective.
I've only really had one install where it couldn't cope with it... but they were getting rediculous amounts of e-mail a day.

It's not the best out there, but in terms of the entire package, Endpoint + PureMessage is pretty good.

2 year contract

Works out at £39.00 per node. (100 nodes)

This includes pure message for exchange on the End Point package.

You sure that's right?

£7800 for the two years? Or you saying that the £39/per node is for the two years? (which is really cheap)

From the Sophos Partner site, 100 users for 2 years is £5062.50. (For Endpoint + Email)

You using Virusscan with ePO etc? If you've not got problems and the price is right I'd personally stick to it. I know people b**ch about it but I've used it in the last 2 places I've worked and we've never had any problems. Not big organisations though, one of around 2000 seats, another with 500.

Sorry, did not explain myself, that's for the two years :)

Apparently there are different endpoint packages, will email the lady and get everything documented.

We had an external company that used to look after all the stuff, we don't anymore.

We have virus scan 8.5 , but I can't find ePO anywhere and neither have I used it before.

All I can find on the server is the console, on access can, on access demand.

To top it off, the accounts don't know when the license expires, can't get a hold of the IT guy that was here before and the previous external company are not much help.

Paper work says January, but can't really trust any documentation from this place, it's simply a piece of paper saying AV - January!!! Doesn't even say number of nodes.

:)

find out what mcafee package you have then download epo its great way to centrally manage mcafee and all its other bits it reports updates auto rolls out etc and all that jazz

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Vote for Sophos here, massively flexible product including packaging for installation on user's home PCs if your environment allows remote working but stipulates enterprise AV...

Sophos' console is excellent too... The 3rd party removal is an excellent touch - but AFAIK they still haven't got their remote console installable on Vista yet - although doesn't sound like it's a concern.

We are a Sophos partner - so I install it a lot. No major problems with it.

So are we.. and whilst it's not that bad, we do have problems on occasion (although we service lots of clients with it, so no setup is identical) usually on upgrades/updates.. but they're really minor compared to how long it just sits there working as it should.

At the end of the day, nothing is perfect.. but in my experience at the enterprise level, Sophos does it the best of all of them.. hence we recommend it to everyone.

There are quite a few others which are starting to gain ground - Forefront for example.. which installs via WSUS etc.
