buying 172 help

Just joined this forum and i am hoping to become a 172 owner. I went to look at one earlier and it seemed a decent example. 2002 with 59 thou full service history but not had cambelt done how much is it to have the cambelt done roughly? also it had two rear dampers replaced is this a common fault or should i be dubious why these have needed replacing? and the air con was crap, prob just a re-gas or could it be anything else? it was peeing it down at the time so i said i would go back to have a better look in the dry and for a test drive etc, can anyone give me any other tips for buying this or anything i should look out for. cheers.

Welcome,
the cambelt is well overdue tbh, it's about £500 or so from a specialist. if the cars not had the auxillary belt done, it'll need that too (cambelt & aux is circa £500)

If it had FSH it should have had all the above done.

Leaking rear shocks, fairly common tbh, there are a few on here who suffered from that too.

A/C wise, it could just need a re-gas or it could be something else (which might be costly)

How much is the car ?

Hi and thanks for the welcome, im a bit worried now im sure it hasnt been done i asked him about the cambelt and he hadnt had it done but he only had it 4 months, selling bike and this to get better car. I will make sure i check the sh fully and look if its been done is it a tickbox on the sh or how is it displayed? oh and the price is 3900 ono.

Apart from the service book being stamped up it should have written down what was done.

The seller should also have the invoice for the work too.

yeah your right well i will ask if he has any previous reciepts to see if the previous owner had it done, what do you reckon to the price? suppose get qoute for cambelt if not done and negotiate by that.
