Buying a 182 :)

Hi chaps

Recently joined (Bristol based) - got £2500 in the bank for a 182 - think I've found the one I want (black / gold 80k FF both cup packs on the clock). My only worry being that it still has the standard exhaust. I'm currently the owner of an MGZR 160 (f**k knows why). I though I would introduce myself firstly and secondly;

What do you guys normally do after you've bought one? Coilovers, exhaust, intake?

In terms of most difference for your money - what would you go for first?

Will be in the same boat in a few months time, think the biggest thing to check is are the belts done (cam/aux kit) and possibly dephaser? and if so does it have reciepts?

Or get him to knock down the price if the belts havent been done.

I dont think its a case of what others have done to their car first. If your car needs an exhaust then get an exhaust.

yeah i knew about the belts etc... seems to be pretty standard that people put that in their ads!!! I really want Petrol blue but I think i'll compromise on colour for the sake of price and condition

Receipts are a must. Having problems passing on the MG at the moment as a) people are very wary of MG's nowadays and b) it doesnt have a FSH. Pain in the ass especially as it only has 55k

I bought my 182 last week, paid £1600 for it, but it's needed belts and dephaser doing, front disc and pads and a full set of tyres, costing me around £1000. It already had a stainless scorpion exhaust, so that was a bonus. Only other things i've done is replace the wiper blades for borsh areos, and replaced one of the exhaust hangers.

Car already had Eibach Proline springs too, only future thing i want to get done is a wheel refurb, to get it looking better.

I don't think performance wise it's worth messing with them too much, so it's just a case of keeping them running nice, and looking how you want.

Full belt and dephaser change cost in the region of £550-£650 from a good Renault specialist, so bear that in mind when considering

Good luck with the hunt :( you don't have to change anything , I suggest getting a feel for the car for a while before changing bits once you know what direction you want to go in IMHO. They are very capable cars in standard form

Nail on the head. Enjoy it in its real form, then explore.
