Buying a Clio 182 on a budget

172 vs 172 cup (both ph2)... I know that the cup is obviously more... 'cuppy', i.e. improved handling, lighter etc - but do the pros of a standard over a cup, vs the pros of a cup over a standard kind of equal each other out or is the one just much better than the other? When I look at the interior of a cup, it makes me think of a very base model clio, even though I know it's technically a higher / more desired model.

That's been for sale for a few months now. I think it was £1700 before, maybe push for it cheaper it's OK.
Well wanted to offer £1250 as a starting offer - A few months you say... is that normal? I'm almost worried it might be gone by next weekend when I have the money for it.
I started looking back end of last year and it seems that private sales go quicker on auto trader. I think dealers are probably too fixed with their price. If the car checks out ok then haggle as hard as you can, especially if your travelling to see it. The only thing that put me off that one was the 17's.
Ya I don't mind the look, but I'll probably end up looking for some 172 or 182 anthracite wheels to replace them before too long
Oh just entered the spec into gocompare for insurance quotes - on standard, I'm looking at £750ish - If I include airfilter, wheels and suspension... it goes up to about £4000!!!! That's just crazy. - I do intend to change the wheels to standard, and the airfilter... well just remove the K&N sticker surely? but the suspension might be a sticky one - I'd have to declare that - just checked the wheels and air filter make no difference to the standard quote (just about), but the suspension pushes it up to 4k from 760.
Do you know of any mod friendly insurers? I'll give them a call today.

Got a would depend on what sort if uprated suspension is on it. What I'm thinking (though I know it isn't the best / safest / most legal option), is to declare the wheels, and air filter (though the filter if I remove the sticker from the panel box, it'd look stock), and not the suspension. The suspension is a £3250 extra expense in insurance (at least from the quotes), and replace for stock springs or entire suspension setup ASAP.
I've spoken with a few people and their experiences, the guys that have never modded their cars tend to say I should declare everything - where as the guys that have along the years done the odd mod says they'll never find out and they wouldn't declare if it's going to cost me so much.
I do plan on swapping the 17's it has for stock wheels as well (either 172 or 182 Anthracite), so the car will look stockish.

Have you rung up or viewed the car yet? It may turn out to be a rough one. If you did buy it do you have funds avaialble to buy standard wheels and springs straight away? There are a few cars being broken on here (you'll need to pay the £12 join fee to see parts for sale) so finding some should be easy. If so I would'nt bother telling insurance about wheels and suspension.

It looks aesthetically very good (Head lights, Steering Wheel, Seats), and has a FSH - it's one of the neater looking examples I've seen for under 1500.
The Suspension and Wheels would probably be done End May so I would need to declare the wheels I'm sure, but mention that I am intending of returning to stock.
