Buying pre-registered - pros and cons

  Clio 197

Pre-reg affects re-sale value/residuals, because "technically" youre second owner.... Thus lease companies do not buy pre-reg...

Private buyers should use this as an opportunity to get a discount... if sold privately, this can be explained to the next buyer (with proof and documents) and shouldnt be a problem...

Cheaper.

When you sell your not the first owner so they may offer you less. Big Iain had trouble with his dealer pre registered 172 as it was deemed as a second hand car so the missing mats were deemed as being ok. Its not a new car as such.

It made no difference at all when I traded my 172 in. The only reason I got a lower trade in was because it was an import, but that didnt matter. I got a grand less than I would have done a UK car, but paid £2.5k less for the car in the first place.

My current clio was pre-registered by the dealer without my knowledge, ordered her in Oct 2002 and took delivery Nov 2002, when i finally got docs i got car registered back to me the day after they registered it, ie they registered it 28.11 and i am owner from 29.11, for resale value will this cause me problems with private sales as any new owner will in theory be the 3rd owner?

Its not so much a problem for you as they can see the 1 day change etc, but it can be a problem for the next person I guess.

Saved me almost £3k on my new pre-reg cup so no complaints here. Its a good way to save money and if youre going to keep the car for a few years the extra owner wont matter much anyway when its sale time.

i saved 3300 on a cup so i dont care. when i come to sell it i will sell it as only one owner. if they notice, which i doubt i will simply explain, dont think it will effect the resell value as it is irrelivent. surely condition and mileage are more important. I wouldnt and didnt care that the car was pre-registered and dont see why somebody else would
