Buying "Used" Software

Hi,
What are the rights/wrongs of buying a legal copy of software from a friend who has had it registered in their name for a while.

If they no longer need/use the software can I register it in my own name if I buy it?

On a similar theme, didn't someone get busted after authorities found over 5,000 illegally downloaded files on their computer, but the guy said he bought them all off his mate - who then confirmed it. PMSL.

Dunno how it works, but there's always a way out of something eventually.

If you buy it online (Ebay/Amazon etc) where do you stand? lol

usually you need to tell the software manufacturer to do a transfer of ownership
