Caliper bolt snapped

  Clio Dynamique
I have changed the brake pads before and the discs. Today I went to under the bottom calliper bolt and its seemed tight then just sheared off, what the hell do I do now?

There is a small bit of bolt left showing now I have flipped the calliper up? I was thinking if a give it a soaking in wd40 and get mole grips on it, it may come out? I don’t want to make it worse. Can you remove that part from the calliper? I will get a picture in a minute.

i'm not familiar with the caliper in question, but is it the head of the bolt that you've sheered off? if so, can you still dismantle the caliper as you were intending?

hopefully someone with experience of the caliper you're dealing with will post but if you could stick up a picture, i could have a go in the interim if it helps

If you've managed to shear it, I doubt that wd40 and grips will work, may even make things worse.

Personally, if you have access to them, I would drill the bolt and use a stub extractor, or drill the bolt out using a slightly smaller sized drill and then calapse the remainder out.

Good luck and be careful.

P.s. Don't use any old bolt of the right size to replace it, get a pukka one.

The bit it goes into is a sliding bolt - just pull it out of the caliper carrier and buy a new one.

Think they were ~£15 for a set from Renault.

^^^ Or a scrapyard , they'll only charge you a couple of quid . Sounds like you overtightened it last time if you've managed to shear the head of .

The pads were changed by the garage last time it was services so it wasn't me. I've got new pads from Renault ready for when they need changing so will use that bolt, and I phoned someone I know who sorted it out for me...
