caliper seized

  monaco 172
i noticed i had some drag which seemed like my rear brakes were stuck on. upon inspection i found that my n/s caliper was sort of stuck and had caused my pad to almost wear out completely. However the caliper still worked as when i pressed the brakes it would still lock up properly.

so anyway i took the disk off and gave it a bit of a hit with a hammer and a twist the the maul grips and now its working perfectly fine with my brand new pads.

What could have caused this? is it something i should worry about as im thinking that todays effort will only be a temporary fix as calipers dont randomly seize up for nothing.

Was it the two sliders seized or the pads in calipers. I think they will seize again if its the sliders, probably got moisture under the rubber boot and corroded the slider. You can take them apart clean and regrease but if the metal tube is pitted or damaged your probably better off with a new caliper, i think the slider tube comes off but not sure you can get that part on its own unless its part of a refurb kit.

I ended up having to get a rear caliper too - piston is sticking a bit meaning theres usually a "bang" when you move off if the car has sat overnight, also my handbrake lever wasn't tightening either.

Fun times

TBH i didn't notice it had broke, was rear passenger side. Only reason i noticed was because I started to hear a grinding noise, so had a look and my 3 month brake pad had worn down to the metal.
