Cam belt help

Car  Clio 1.2 Expression
Hi, got my clio a week or so back, had no problems or anything seems to be running like a dream. But, the seller did admit that he wasnt sure if the cam belt had been changed, at its at 77000 miles.

So couple of questions,
1.How often should it be changed? (im sure it should have already)
2. Easy way to check if it has been?

For the latter im guessing just take it apart and have a loook but to be honest I wouldnt have a clue where to start or what Im looking for - But hey we all have to start somewhere!

Thanks :)

if it's a 1.2 16v is should have been done a while ago, Going by age should have been done in 2007 and due again about now

I thought we were meant to go by mileage?
& Im sure it has been done but wanted to check as for a ll i know the previous owners never had it done. Dont want to have to spend money unless its necessary.
Any idea how much the job would cost?

Jordi17?

Ive heard alot of people saying its around £250...but seriously just to get a belt replaced cant be that much!

No but seriously, don't ask him.

£250 seems very reasonable - the parts aren't the expensive part, it's the labour! Do it, as otherwise you'll have a dead engine on your hands and will be forking out double that for a second hand one!

PM Jordi.

Marks taking the piss mate.

DO NOT take advice from Jordi17 when it comes to anything from cars. Unless he can gaurntee it so if it does go snap then he has to cough up for it.

For £300 is good, and for peace of mind i would have it done.

£230 with a water pump and stat if you fancy a short drive to Nottingham.

Mick

If there's no proof of it being done which if the last owner doesn't know then it probably hasnt.

Doesn't sound too expensive anyway.

i'm closer ;)

I'm £260 with all genuine parts inc water pump, or £225 with non genuine parts

regarding when it should be done, it's 72k or 5 years whichever is soonest, so every 5 years regardless on miles

Getting it booked into a local garage who do all my familys MOTs so they can have a look at it and going to take it from there. Cheers guys.
