Cam Belt

Hi All,

right I have no idea about this and I have read the other posts and people are on about getting there cam belt changed. I have a 182 and I have done 36k in my car, do i really need to get it changed because my car is running sweet! What would happen if i never got it changed?

you wont notice a cambelt going until it goes,
and it WILL snap eventually,
(mine lasted 4k more than when it was meant to be done)
then ur pistons will keep going and ur valves would stop,
your pistons would hit your valves and bent them/inbed them into the head/inbed them into the piston/crack your head (muller your engine)
and if your unlucky, it will be a new engine

i was lucky, i only had to strip the top of the engine down and replace the valves when mine went, still a £500 job at a garage on a 1.2 8v

plus itll be imposible to sell the car without proof the cambelt was done,

everyone will say the same,
NEVER EVER EVER EVER
neglect to do your cambelt

just get it done on the recommended service

5years from new or 72K miles WHICHEVER COMES FIRST

although to be safe 4years 60K miles

how can you tell that? only stated mileage not age does need an aux belt minimum though

Cheers for this lads, right my car has done 36K and is a 04 reg 182 so do i need my cambelt changed or my aux belt? or both for that matter, i really dont have a clue about it.

Cambelt will be due next year as it will be 5 Years BUT right now only the Aux is due BUT I'd probably do both now if you have the funds.

I have a 172 cup - 53 plate approaching 52k miles

Should i aim to get the Cam done before 60k?

If it's not been done i'd be booking it in for the not too distant future as it's at the 5 Year Old Stage

Aux is 5 years or 36k

My 182 (04 and 59K) is off to Rentech next month for a cam and aux belt changed and service.

what is the reason for cambelts going? just general wear and tear? or from driving the car hard?

i am picking up a good example 172 02plate with 48k on it, all services and mots have been done before there due dates apart from the major service. im assuming i will need to get it booked in asap!? but in the mean time drive it slow yea? or is recomended not to drive what so ever!?

cam belts last about 75k
i dont think it matters how you drive the car,
its just general wear and tear

If you read all the Renault documentation it says 5 years, only people on CS think it's 3 years.

Why, they don't last 72k then just "snap" it's a rough guide IMO.
