Cam belt

  182 Clio
Is there a suggested mileage to change the cam belt?

My car is coming upto four years old and about to hit 20000 miles. Renault have suggested that the cam belt needs changing but I am not sure if they are just trying to get more money or are they being truthful? Hard to tell sometimes!!
Also going for the first major service (had a smaller one at 2 years) which is not cheap!
Any advice appreciated
Cheers

some people get it done at 4 years to be safe but by the book its 72k 5 years, like roy said make sure the aux belt has been done if not u mite aswel have everything done at once now.

  172 CUP
Renault Dealers quoted me £770 + VAT for cambelt and aux belt changes on a CUP with no aircon. Gone to a few Renault specialists and Looking at £300 + VAT for the same. Ouch.

I'm getting mine done very soon at 4 1/2 years and 53,000m. Mainly because of hard use on track, and also because my aux wasn't done at 36,000 due to the servicing dealer being a collection of bells who told me it didn't need doing. It's not going to be cheap, but cheaper than a rebuilt head.
