has anybody ever had to replace their cam belt on a mk 2 172? Mines done 18k and the dealer reckons the auxillary belt came loose, wore through some kind of housing and caused damage to the cam belt? Is this possible?
oh yes, under warranty, just thought Id check that it could happen. The dealers i took it to ahve been known to be economical with the truth before though...
no mate had a few before where the aux belts come off and gone into the cambelt.most times it makes the cambelt come off as well and bends all the valves.least its warranty though as repairs are expensive.
oh right thought you meant the valves as well.its the pulleys/tensioners that would have put your price up on that job.i think the aux belt tensioner is over £100 on its own.
