cam changing

Hey guys, i ben hearing aloy about changing the cam as a part of a tuning upgrade. But i dont understand it exactly, can someone please explain to me how it works, what it entails to change it, and round about how much it costs? also what is the gain like, is it worht it if i just get the cam done??
sorry for all the questions but im really interested in how it works.
i have a renault clio II 1.2 1998

gains on the 2.0 can be upto 30bhp with the right management and other basic mods, no idea on an 8v though mate. Tbh it would be much cheaper and simpler to install a bigger more powerful engine

Thanks guys thats all i wanted to know, if its worth it or not. And clearly it aint so you guys have saved me a whole lot of wasting time thinking bout it!
