cam/timing belt failure ????????????

i have a clio 2.0 16v sport 2001
with a snaped cam belt, what damage is caused by this????????

Bent valves usually, anything from one to all of them.

New engine is often easier and more cost-effective than repair.

All depends on the damage done.

usually piston/valve damage - all very expensive as the engine has to be stripped

Surely though if your looking for replacement engines its easier and cheaper just to fix the original.

The original needs to be removed if being replaced so why not repair?

You will then also no that the cambelt and auxbelt is new

2nd hand engines go for £400 (if you're lucky) upto £1K

I got my 182 engine for £250 quid cost about 60 to get it shipped down here though so £310 all in. Then fitting unless your doing it yourself?

belt kit
valves (usually 8)
head set
labour wise

- Total head overhaul
- Piston crown clean up
- refit

circa £1200-£1800 dependent on damage inc labour etc

my rebuild cost 1300 basically

that was 16 new valves
valve guides reground and seats done
head gasket
water pump
timing belt and aux belt done

was the extent of my rebuild

everyone seems to think itsa million pound job every time,
worth havin a look at repairin it, cz if ur lucky,
it cud be like mine £180 n its better than it was before
