Cambelt and the rest in Hinckley near leicester?

hey

Anyone know of a good competent place local to Hinckley LE10 that can do the Cam-belt and other stuff correctly??

My Local garage will do it for £707. Thats the cam belt, Aux, timing and water pump replaced with 8 hours labour.
That's a bit too rich for me...

Any idea what they would charge? I would only be able to get it sorted @ end of may if i need to go to Birmingham.

It is worth the drive so you know it is done correctly (which it will if Fred's doing it) and also once you come to sell it people will be looking for BTM, Diamond etc receipts as they are the well known for being able to get it done properly. Also it'll probably be cheaper.

Ok, Will have a look tonight and see what the belt looks like. And then go through all my paper work and see if its been replaced at all recently. if not then will try and book it in with the chap in brum. or if i can find any evidence that the garage local is capable of doing a good job then i will use them.

Turns out I don't need the cam doing!

Rang the MOT Center who did the last MOT, asked if they had any history for the car and what i was given has made me happy.

this was done last July:

She said the cars cam belt broke, and had to do a lot of work to get it back to how it should be.

And in 2012 is had new shock absorbers all round.

So I am very pleased as all it needs doing is the exhaust which will be done tomorrow, Well untill the next mot fails that is ;)

Keep Fred and Mick in mind for future. They're the only two in the midlands, that I'd let near my car. Fred does all the work on mine but I wouldn't hesitate to use Mick either.

When I asked on the phone she said it was the aux that broke and took the rest out.
Thus they did the lot.

No idea if it's a cup. How do i find that out lol

Get a new aux belt kit fitted asap.

They have just replaced the belt imo. Reason for aux snapping is either due to age, or somethings seized either way it NEEDS!! New aux kit.

I will call them and ask if it was the aux kit that they fitted or just the belt. I cant afford a massive bill right now anyway

What the hell did they use "weld seal" for?




Im going to guess at:
PAS pipe leaked from the high pressure line and sprayed out, fluid got onto aux belt, aux belt went under cambelt, wrecked engine.

Previous owner wanted it fixed as cheaply as possible so it got only a new belt not a new kit, and they bodged up the PAS pipe with weld seal to get it to seal up for long enough to sell it?

Well that owner had it repaired @ 58k miles. They then traded it in @ 62k miles.

What would you suggest i have done asap? I need to sort the budget out for it.

i will have £400 spare at end of may that i could chuck into the car lol

Well it looks like they used a full kit for the cambelt, and gates is a decent make, so hopefully thats ok.

Personally I would check the PAS pipe isnt leaking, and look for nasty bodges on it (although if its working then I guess no real drama), and I would do a full aux belt kit unless you have any proof in the history of when the rest of the kit was changed?

And I wouldnt ever tune that engine, pattern valves have a habbit of failing at high rpm!

Ok, I will ask the garage who is doing the exhaust today to look and see if the PAS pipe is leaking or not.
I will double check the history when i get the car back (its all in the glove box).

Tbh for me the car pulls like a train and feels amazing, mostly because i am coming from a 1.5D Smarty forfour lol.
So don't think i need to tune it.
