Cambelt Change

  2004 Clio 172
Hey guys,
I just bought a 172 and am looking to change the cambelt (out of servicer interval). Where would you recommend I do it? It will be in the Dorset area. I have contacted K-Tech I just want to know the price is competitive and I'm not getting ripped off.

Many Thanks
Nathan

If the dephaser goes after the above you will be paying again for basically the above.

Get a price with the dephaser and water pump too.

Dephaser could start rattling, which is a total belt off job again. Water pump not so bad, but it's one of those 'whilst you're there' as access is so much easier.

Both should be done at the same time because if either fails then its cambelt job again I think. Cambelt, aux, dephaser, waterpump, oil and filter is normally the 'package'.

All in a rough figure is just over £600 (may have gone up since I had mine done in 2015).

Waterpump is just the aux mate, but if you re-include labour if you take it to a garage it's just silly money.
I paid £640 for cambelt, aux, dephaser, waterpump and coolant. (I supplied oil/filter and this was changed FOC) with @MicKPM

I can see why Ktec racing can have very flash offices and all there staff drive flash cars at those prices. Ktec are decent company But I am sure you can see £430 Is alot of money for what they actually do regarding cam belt change. Cambelt change including dephaser water pump and aux belt will actually be around £350 to £400 at independent garage A specialist will charge £600 But If you shop around you should find a capable independant garage with all the specialist tools required that can complete the job for £350 with some small change. Personally I would rather pay someone who knows what there doing £600 and have it sorted quickly with some form of guarantee.

Very flash offices and garages don't come cheap. You forget about all the overheads that these people have to pay. Yeah an independent can probably do it cheaper, but you're most likely getting poor quality parts or poor quality work.
Genuine renault parts are expensive, the labour may be expensive but the knowledge of actually doing the job didn't just jump into their heads overnight. I personally wouldn't go to ktec, but all specialists are charging similar prices nowadays.

Easy peasy and was no where near the car

I'm that good

Arent the parts alone around £350?
Parts price only (PH2 172 with A/C) was £394.13 + 20% VAT in 07/2014 = £472.95.
Includes OE Dephaser, cambelt kit, aux belt kit, water pump kit, crank bolt, cam & timing end float seals, coolant, oil & filter.

Why not accumulate the parts over three months, if they're geuine i don't see many garages having an issue with fitting them if they're receipted.

you have to give warranty on parts fitted that you don't supply, even used parts, not many places now that will fit customer supplied parts.

I have called K-Tech today and it was 700 all in (inc dephaser). I also called my local Renault dealership to get a price. Still waiting to hear back. Has anyone used K Tech and what was the service like?.
